  • Athens is famous for being one of the oldest and most historic cities in the world. Athens history spans over 3,400 years and the city is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the world, including the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Whether or not you are a history buff, these sites are really incredible to visit in person.

Despite its history, I was blown away by how urban and vibrant Athens is. The stunning historic sites are matched with amazing restaurants (in the city and on the beach), beautiful parks, great shopping, rooftop terraces, and nightlife.  Even some of the bars and restaurants stay open until 6 or 7am.

The food in Athens is another major highlight. Greek cuisine is renowned for its fresh, flavorful ingredients and healthy Mediterranean diet. In Athens, you can find everything from traditional souvlaki and moussaka to fresh seafood and meze plates.

In addition to everything else, I also loved the size of Athens (smaller than expected) and how walkable it is. And the people in Athens are as warm as the weather!
